FAQs

1. What is eProcurement?

eProcurement stands for "electronic procurement” and is the process of buying products electronically, instead of emailing or faxing purchase orders.

2. Why do companies use eProcurement systems?

To save time, reduce errors, control spending, and make purchasing more efficient.

3. What’s the difference between eProcurement and ordering online at BDBiosciences.com?

eProcurement is exclusively for businesses and institutions.  There is secure connectivity between a customer’s system and the Waters Biosciences website.  Features include punchout, integration with business purchasing systems, approval workflows, and budget tracking. Customers do not need to create or maintain a login for punchout.  Online ordering on BDBiosciences.com is similar to how you place orders on most websites.

4. Which eProcurement systems do you support?

Ariba®, Coupa®, ePlus®, Exostar, GEP®, IBM® ShopOUT, Infor®, IntraMalls, Jaggaer®, Ketera, Market4Care, MRO (generic term — no trademark symbol), Oracle® / Oracle Business Network, PeopleSoft®, Prendio®, Quartzy®, SAP®, SupplyNet, Workday®, Zageno®

5. What is punchout?

Punchout is a type of electronic peProcurement system.  It is a method for allows customers to easily to shop on a supplier’s website directly from their company’s internal purchasing system rather than through the supplier’s website. In punchout, the shopping cart is returned directly to the company’s peProcurement system, where an electronic order is then approved and sent to the supplier.

6. Why is it called “punchout”?

Because you’re “punching out” of your peProcurement system to shop on the supplier’s site.

7. What is the difference between punchout level 1 and level 2?

Punchout Level 1 lets you shop on a supplier’s website using your eProcurement system then bring the cart back to create a requisition. Punchout Level 2 adds the ability to search for a supplier’s products directly inside your eProcurement system before going to the supplier’s site. This makes it faster and easier to find products without leaving your workflow. Level 2 is more integrated and user-friendly, but not all suppliers support it.

8. What’s the difference between punchout and hosted catalogs?

A punchout catalog lets you shop on a supplier’s website from within your company’s purchasing system where you will see real-time pricing and product availability. A hosted catalog is a list of products and prices stored directly in the your procurement system.  It must be manually updated periodically, as products are added/removed and pricing is adjusted.

9. Who do I contact to get a punchout connection setup?

You can reach out to your sales representative, or you can email our eBusiness team directly at us-esolutions@bd.com .

10. How long will it take to get the punchout connection set up?

A punchout connection can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months to deploy depending on the customer’s availability and resources. The setup process consists of the following steps:

  1. Kickoff/requirements call. Although, some customers prefer to skip this step and communicate these details via email.
