Real-Time Image Feature Extraction Enables a Range of Novel Flow Cytometry Cell Sorting Applications
BD CellView™ Image Technology is a new-to-world, real-time imaging (RTI) technology that facilitates live visual inspection of target cells and novel gating strategies based on image feature analysis using spatial distribution of fluorescence. This camera-free imaging technology is not limited by fluidic requirements or image processing time, enabling image cell sorting and fast throughput at speeds up to 10,000 events per second. In this webinar, Aaron Middlebrook, Sr. Staff Scientist, R&D, BD, will highlight RTI-enabled cell sorting applications, experimental design and panel considerations.
During the webinar, the speaker will:
- Introduce you to RTI flow cytometry
- Demonstrate how to gate and sort with quantitative image features in the same way you do with flow parameters
- Illustrate how to apply image features for different applications to measure the relative location of fluorescence signals and track morphological changes in cell populations

Aaron is the BD Biosciences resident applications expert for BD CellView™ Image Technology and a long-time flow cytometry expert. He has spearheaded all data generation efforts to evaluate and market BD CellView™ Image Technology. Prior to his work on application development for BD CellView™ Image Technology, Aaron spent several years working in Reagent R&D where he successfully established a tumor dissociation workflow for flow cytometry. Aaron’s graduate work at the University of Arizona and his postdoctoral fellowship at the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) was focused on T cell development and function within the context of autoimmunity and HIV.
