BD™ MALDI Sample Concentrator

A simple solution for concentrating and purifying multiple samples for MALDI mass spectrometer analysis.

BD™ MALDI Sample Concentrator is a silicone elastomer in the format of a 96-well or 100-well plate that fits on top of a typical MALDI plate. The product has holes in the silicone that form wells when placed and sealed on a MALDI plate. Liquid-tight sealing occurs naturally between the silicone and plate by electrostatic attraction. The product is used to concentrate liquid samples to dryness on the MALDI plate or to desalt and concentrate peptide and protein mixtures prior to MALDI analysis.

Features for 96-well Format

  • Standard 96-well microplate footprint ensures automation compatibility
  • Compatible with microplate-size MALDI plates found on a wide range of mass spectrometers
  • Allows the concentration and desalting of up to 150µL of sample using common laboratory centrifuges (with microplate carriers)
  • The concentration effect typically increases the sensitivity of the analysis by an order of magnitude or more
  • Resulting spot size is about 1mm

Features for 100-well Format

  • Compatible with 56mm x 56mm microplate-size MALDI plates used with Applied Biosystems Voyager™ MALDI mass spectrometers
  • Allows the concentration and desalting of up to 50µL of sample using common laboratory vacuum concentrators
  • The concentration effect typically increases the sensitivity of the analysis by an order of magnitude or more
  • Resulting spot size is about 1mm

A high concentration (1000 nM) sample was spotted directly onto the MALDI target.
A 10 nM sample was desalted, concentrated and spotted using the BD™ MALDI Sample Concentrator.
The same 10 nM sample was desalted, concentrated and spotted using C18 resin-packed pipette tips.
