As part of BD Biosciences’ efforts to support single-cell excellence and expand single-cell research across Canada, the BD Biosciences Single-Cell Multiomics Investigator Sponsored Studies: 2023 Request for Proposals is a unique opportunity for Canadian researchers to initiate and continue single-cell experiments on the BD Rhapsody™ Single-Cell Analysis System, contributing to further insights and closing the knowledge gap in this rapidly advancing field.

To support the advancement and adoption of Single Cell Multiomics, BD Biosciences has initiated a request for proposals with areas of focus that include:

  • Advances and/or novel research in protein profiling via single cell CITE-Seq
  • Immune repertoire profiling via single cell sequencing
  • Single cell multiomic studies that leverage multiple modalities from a single sequencing read out, such as combined transcriptomics + proteomics, transcriptomics + epigenetics, or other combined omics
  • Deep cellular subset interrogation through flow cytometry enrichment followed by single cell sequencing
  • Evaluations of different single cell CITE-Seq methods and their applicability to different cell types or biological investigations
  • Translational research via single cell sequencing that leads to potential future clinical solutions
  • The use of single cell sequencing for research in infectious diseases
  • Evaluation of rare cell populations using single cell methods

Competitive proposals should focus on unique aspects of scM technologies and focus on differentiating factors of the technologies. These may include cell recovery, CITESeq signal to noise, QC metrics, reproducibility, or unique applications in single cell Multiomics.

The grant will include (up to 3 awarded recipients):

  • BD Rhapsody Single-Cell Analysis Reagents (value up to a maximum of $10,000 USD list price)
  • This grant includes BD products only, no monetary funding will be provided
  • Technical Application Support if training is needed on the BD Rhapsody System
  • BD Rhapsody System Loaner instrument for a maximum 12-month term
  • Seven Bridges for data alignment
  • Up to a maximum of 12-month complimentary SeqGeqv1.7 Software license for data analysis
  • Ancillary loaner instruments where required for BD Rhapsody protocols

Applicant eligibility and key timelines

Grant recipients must be an organization or institution in Canada. Payments to individual health care professionals are not permitted. The project leader (also referred to as external investigator or sponsor‐investigator) may be from any of the following bodies:

  • Post-secondary institutions or their affiliated hospitals or research institutes
  • Laboratories of federal government departments or agencies
  • Indigenous health authority, and/or other organization
  • Non-governmental, not-for-profit organizations including charitable organizations
  • Industry and commercial enterprises
  • Up to 3 awarded recipients will receive the support as indicated above
  • The application shall remain open for 45-days only (opening February 3rd and closing March 17th)
  • After notification of the grant approval, a contract is required

Recipient selection will be conducted according to excellence of the researcher and merit of the proposal. Onus is on the applicant to address their experience and contributions to the field through CV submission, and significance of the project and appropriateness of the use of single-cell multiomics to support their methodology. Proposals should be concise with clear objectives and demonstrate exploration of innovative concepts and inquiries.
