Exploring immunodeficiency: current applications and future challenges for flow cytometry

BD-sponsored industrial partner presentation | 21st September at 15:00 in Hall 1A

Catarina Martins, Invited Assistant Professor of Immunology, NOVA Medical School, NOVA University, Lisbon

  • Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) require timely identification of the inherent condition
  • Flow cytometry helps identify biomarkers and characteristic changes in several IEI classification criteria
  • Flow cytometry is at the forefront of patient follow-up and monitoring
  • We need to implement standardised approaches in immunophenotypic and functional settings

At NMS, she is the technical manager of the Primary Immunodeficiency Laboratory, addressing both diagnostic purposes and research projects, funded by national and international grants. She has contributed to several original papers published in peer-reviewed journals in this area. Since 2016, she is also coordinator of the Biosafety Committee of NMS, and she collaborates with the National Accreditation bodies of Portugal and Ireland as technical and lead assessor for medical laboratories (ISO 17025 and ISO 15189). Catarina is also a member of the Iberian Cytometry Society board and a volunteer for the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) Shared Resource Laboratory (SRL) Task Force.

Get ready for IVDR

We want to support you to get IVDR ready. So, we are driving the implementation of this new regulation and our solutions planned for IVDR compliance will help you in doing so. Learn about them at the BD booth.
