The BD Multiomics Alliance – Part 2: Benefits and collaboration
September 06, 2022
The BD Multiomics Alliance, initiated in 2019, brought together a group of seven leading academic researchers from all over Europe. At the kick-off meeting of the Multiomics Alliance, two of the seven Alliance members shared their vision and expectations. Now, 2 years later, four of them have taken part in a short mini-series, sharing their experience and first results
The benefits of Multiomics technology
According to the participants of the Alliance, the BD Rhapsody™ Single-Cell Analysis System and the BD AbSeq® technology have many benefits. Prof. Susan Schlenner, KU Leuven, Belgium, states that the workflow was very useful as it allowed her team to work with small cell numbers and challenging samples. She was very happy that her team was able to work conveniently with the fast and simple workflow. Dr. Andrew Filby, Newcastle University, UK feels that the Multiomics technology was complementary to the flow cytometry work his team did in the lab. He is impressed that the entire workflow is very well considered and has several quality control measures built in.
Catia Simoes, a Ph.D. student in the lab of Dr. Bruno Pavia, University of Navarra, Spain, is happy that in the wet lab, the Multiomics workflow allows the checking of each step. She is also very pleased to use the intuitive platform for analysis. Prof. Orla Sheils, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, notes that the technology is easy to use and is particularly impressed with BD’s support. This allowed her team to ‘dive in’ to the technology with ease and confidence.
The working of the consortium
The consortium included experts in biomedical and clinical sciences from all across Europe and it was a great experience to work together, according to Prof. Schlenner. She loves the way the research teams came together and formed clusters. Dr. Filby enjoyed the discussions with the consortium members, and also with those of his sub-group that comprised participants with common research interests. Prof. Shelis enjoyed the opportunity to work with other European research partners. She is also very grateful to BD’s scientists for their enthusiasm, patience and understanding.
