Product Notices
- This reagent has been pre-diluted for use at the recommended Volume per Test. We typically use 1 × 10^6 cells in a 100-µl experimental sample (a test).
- Please refer to www.bdbiosciences.com/us/s/resources for technical protocols.
- Caution: Sodium azide yields highly toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in plumbing.
- Source of all serum proteins is from USDA inspected abattoirs located in the United States.
- For fluorochrome spectra and suitable instrument settings, please refer to our Multicolor Flow Cytometry web page at www.bdbiosciences.com/colors.
- An isotype control should be used at the same concentration as the antibody of interest.
The CARL-1 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to CD255, also known as TWEAK (TNF-related WEAK inducer of apoptosis). The CD255 cytokine belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family and is encoded by the TNFSF12 (Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 12) gene. CD255 (TWEAK) is present as a type II transmembrane protein form and a smaller, biologically-active secreted isoform. CD255 is expressed on most tissues and non-lymphoid tumor cell lines but has weak or no expression on hematopoietic lineage cell lines. CD255 is not detectable on resting peripheral blood mononuclear cells. However, its expression is upregulated on peripheral blood monocytes in response to IFN-γ stimulation. CD255 can act through the TWEAK Receptor (aka, TWEAK-R, TNFRSF12A, Fn14, and CD266) to induce a variety of target cellular responses including NF-kB activation, proliferation, apoptosis, IL-8 and GM-CSF production. Clone CARL-2, a different monoclonal antibody, also binds to TWEAK although it binds to a different TWEAK epitope.
