The Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS) is a convenient and powerful system for expression of heterologous genes in a eukaryotic processing environment. There are two basic virus options for this purpose: the Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV) or the Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus. The diversity and availability of AcNPV-based transfer vectors, combined with S. Frugiperda cell lines (Sf9 and Sf21), makes AcNPV the preferred system for gene expression and large-scale recombinant protein production.
