FACSCalibur is another BD first: the only four-color, dual-laser
benchtop flow cytometry system available today capable of both analyzing and sorting.
Combined with its automated sample loader, a wide variety of reagents, and powerful
software, FACSCalibur offers the high throughput necessary to meet productivity
requirements without compromising the flexibility and performance essential for
today’s busy, cost-conscious laboratory.
 Compact and easy to use,
FACSCalibur can quickly perform routine tasks including immunophenotyping, reticulocyte
enumeration, DNA analysis, and absolute counting. And with its superior four-color
analysis and sorting capabilities, FACSCalibur is a highly sensitive tool, enabling
laboratories to perform sophisticated cellular work in areas such as genetics, multicolor
analysis, and immune function† (for example, using FastImmune).
FACStation Data Management System
The ease of use of the FACSCalibur flow cytometer is enhanced by its user-friendly data
management system. FACStation takes advantage of the intuitive Macintosh environment. It
performs all the computing tasks required for fast, accurate results, including instrument
setup, data collection, analysis, and management. FACStation’s automated software and
high-performance acquisition and analysis tools make plotting, gating, statistical
analysis, and reporting easier.

With the FACS Loader option, FACSCalibur affords walkaway automation for even the most
demanding applications. Featuring removable 40-tube carousels, on-board mixing, and our

Cell Sorting: Innovative Technology
Makes Cell Sorting Routine
FACSCalibur is the only benchtop flow cytometry system available today capable of
sorting cells of interest.
With FACSCalibur, sorting is routine—no time-consuming setup procedures are
required. Just gate the population of interest and click ACQUIRE—FACSCalibur does the
rest. Sorting occurs in a completely enclosed, aerosol-free environment for enhanced
safety when processing biohazardous samples. Multiparameter flow cytometry, combined with
cell sorting, adds an additional dimension to the information you gain from your sample.
Purification of subpopulations through sorting eliminates contaminants that can interfere
with sensitive assays, increasing the number of target cells in the sample, or confirming
flow cytometric findings. Cell sorting is ideal for verifying cell morphology and
performing subsequent molecular techniques such as FISH, PCR, or functional assays.
Cross-correlation of flow cytometric data with post-sort results is a powerful tool in
cellular analysis.
Cells sorted by the FACSCalibur are collected into test tubes, or if desired, cells can
be sorted directly onto filters or cell culture inserts by the Cell Concentrator Module
option. The Cell Concentrator Module recovers sorted cells conveniently, without
centrifugation.
