The evolutionary conservation of the molecular mechanisms regulating metazoan development and the ease of genetic manipulation has made Drosophila an attractive model to identify potential new target genes involved in human disease. However, the field of Drosophila research is currently hindered by the lack of high quality antibody reagents to a broad spectrum of targets.
BD Biosciences Pharmingen has initiated a program to develop high-quality antibodies to further Drosophila research.
Beginning with an inventory of over 1,000 antibodies to intracellular signaling proteins, we screened each antibody for cross-reactivity to its corresponding Drosophila protein.
The results were presented in a poster at the Drosphila Research Conference:
A Proteomics Approach to Identifying Specific Cross-Reactive Anti-Human Antibodies to Drosophila Proteins
