BD Biosciences continues to improve and support the original BD FACSAria™ cell sorter by providing field upgrades that offer the key features and benefits incorporated in the new BD FACSAria™ II cell sorter.

Complete system upgrade
A complete system upgrade converts a BD FACSAria cell sorter to equivalent BD FACSAria II cell sorter specifications. Included in this upgrade are the fluidics upgrade (see below), a new sort block, and a new bulk injection splash shield and associated skins.
Fluidics upgrade
A fluidics upgrade includes a new fluidics cart and new fluidics, flow cell, nozzles, automated laser shutter, and BD FACSDiva™ 6.1 software.
The new fluidics system has been designed to achieve easier aseptic sort setup. The redesign includes a pressurized stainless steel sheath tank (10L) that can be autoclaved, and a pressurized ethanol shutdown tank (5L) for automated shutdown. The new flow cell design supports new nozzle sizes, which include 70, 85, 100, and 130-micron nozzles. It also features integrated valve manifolds, improved tubing, and connections to allow for improved aseptic sort setup. In addition, new software wizards make aseptic sort setup easier.

375-nm Near UV laser upgrade
This upgrade includes the 375-nm Near UV laser.
Expanding the range of application choices.
The 375-nm Near UV laser can be operated together with the red and blue lasers. If the unit is equipped with a violet laser, the 375-nm Near UV laser and the violet laser share the same beam spot at the point of interception within the cuvette. The user must select to run either the 375-nm Near UV laser, the violet laser, or neither. Each 375-nm Near UV Upgrade kit provides the following filters: 450/20 BP, 670 LP, and a 610 DM LP. This upgrade is available for the following BD FACSAria configurations:
- 2-laser (with trigon)
- 2-laser with PMT upgrade (with trigon)
- 3-laser
