BD™ Oxygen Biosensor System

   IntroductionProduct List
BD™ Oxygen Biosensor System is an innovative detection system that is adaptable to a wide variety of custom drug discovery applications. As oxygen is consumed, the biosensor fluoresces, providing a signal that can be directly correlated to cell growth or oxygen consumption. BD™ Oxygen Biosensor Systems are ideal for primary and secondary screens measuring viability, toxicity, or antibiotic resistance, as well as for subcellular systems like oxidative enzymes. The proprietary biosensor is available in 96 and 384-well formats.

The BD™ Oxygen Biosensor System is an oxygen sensitive fluorescent compound (tris 1,7-diphenyl-1,10 phenanthroline ruthenium (II) chloride) embedded in a gas permeable and hydrophobic matrix permanently attached to the bottom of a multiwell plate. The concentration of oxygen in the vicinity of the dye is in equilibrium with that in the liquid media. Oxygen quenches the dye in a predictable concentration dependent manner. The amount of fluorescence correlates directly to the rate of oxygen consumption in the well, which in turn can relate to any sort of reaction that can be linked to oxygen consumption.

The unique technology allows homogenous instantaneous detection of oxygen levels, without the need for additional reagents or steps, easy kinetic measurements for growth or drug inhibition assays. The BD™ Oxygen Biosensor System is HTS friendly - the microplate format and easy of detection reduce time consuming and costly steps in the process of drug discovery.
