Cell Culture Surfaces
Surface Types
BD BioCoat Cultureware is offered in a variety of surface treatments to provide enhanced cell attachment and growth
BD BioCoat™ cultureware is coated with extracellular matrix proteins designed to mimic the in vivo environment and maximize cellular activity, delivering consistent results in a broad range of research applications. BD BioCoat cultureware provides versatility with surface options including collagen I, collagen IV, fibronectin, gelatin, laminin, and poly-d-lysine.
BD BioCoat Collagen I cultureware
Collagen I, found in most tissues and organs, is most plentiful in dermis, tendon, and bone. It is an integral part of the framework that hold cells and tissues together and has been recognized as a useful matrix for improving cell culture. In vitro use of collagen can exert effect on the adherence, morphology, growth, migration, and differentiation of a variety of cell types. Typical examples of cells grown on collagen I are endothelial cells (e.g. HUVEC), hepatocytes, muscle cells, PC12 cells, osteoclasts, or transfected HEK-293 cells. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Collagen IV cultureware
Type IV Collagen is a ubiquitous component in basement membranes and provides the major structural support for this matrix. When the Collagen IV meshwork is assembled, it provides a scaffold for the assembly of other basement membrane components through interactions with laminin, entactin/nidogen, and heparin sulfate proteoglycan. Among the cells which show enhanced attachment and growth on collagen IV are epithelial cells, human epidermal stem cells, keratinocytes, mouse ES cells, and HT-1080 cells.

BD BioCoat Fibronectin cultureware
Human Fibronectin (HFN) is widely distributed glycoprotein that is used as a substrate to promote attachment of cells through its central-binding domain RGD sequence. The principal function of HFN appears to be in cellular migration during wound healing and development, regulation of cell growth and differentiation, and haemostasis/thrombosis. Among the many cell types which attach, spread, and proliferate on BD BioCoat Fibronectin coated cultureware are smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, neuroblastoma cells, human myeloma cell lines and lung fibroblasts. BD BioCoat Gelatin cultureware
Gelatin provides an attachment and growth promoting substrate for the culture of a variety of cell types. It is also suitable for promoting adhesion of tranfected cell types. Gelating is a heterogeneous mixture of water-soluble proteins derived through the hydrolysis of Collagen. Vascular endothelial cells, HUVEC cells, and embryonic stem cells have been cultured on BD BioCoat Gelatin. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Laminin cultureware
Laminin (LM), a major component of basement membranes, is a multifunctional glycoprotein that is used as a substrate to culture and maintain differentiated function of a wide variety of cells. Laminin has been shown in culture to stimulate neurite outgrowth, promote cell attachment, chemotaxis, cell differentiation, and neuronal survival. BD BioCoat Laminin coated cultureware is useful for the culture of neuronal cells, keratinocytes, myoblasts, and breast epithelial cells. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Matrigel Matrix cultureware
BD BioCoat Matrigel™ matrix provides a physiologically relevant surface for a range of applications and cell types, including human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, mammary acinar formation and endothelial tube formation. BD BioCoat Matrigel is also certified LDEV-free. Sertoli cells, myogenic cells, mammary epithelial cells, rat brain microvessels, and hepatocytes have been cultured successfully on BD Matrigel cultureware. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Poly-D-Lysine cultureware
Poly-D-Lysine (PDL) are synthetic compounds that enhance cell adhesion and protein absorption by altering surface charges on the culture substrate. As PDL are synthetic molecules, they do not stimulate biological activity in the cells cultured on them, and they do not introduce impurities carried by natural polymers. Many transfected cells, but also neuronal cell lines, primary neurons and glial cells have been cultured successfully on poly-d-lysine. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Poly-L-Lysine cultureware
Poly-L-Lysine (PLL) are synthetic compounds that enhance cell adhesion and protein absorption by altering surface charges on the culture substrate. As PLL are synthetic molecules, they do not stimulate biological activity in the cells cultured on them, and they do not introduce impurities carried by natural polymers. Many transfected cells, but also neuronal cell lines, primary neurons and glial cells have been cultured successfully on BD BioCoat PDL. Buy Now »
BD BioCoat Poly-D-Lysine/Laminin, Poly-L-Orinthine/Laminin and Laminin/Fibronectin cultureware
BD BioCoat Poly-D-Lysine/Laminin (PDL/LM) and Poly-L-Ornithine/Laminin (PLO/LM) are suitable for culturing many different types of Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) and Central Nervous System (PNS) and Central Nervous System (CNS) networks and are useful for promoting neural cell attachement and differentiation. BD BioCoat Laminin/Human Fibronectin (LM/HF) provides an in vitro environment that promotes cell attachment and extensive process formation. Embryonic rat sympathetic neurons, cerebellar macroneurons, rat astrocytes, and adult human bone marrow stem cells have been successfully cultured on
BD BioCoat PDL/LM or PLO/LM. Buy Now »
