When the new AF²™ facility opens, BD Biosciences – Advanced Bioprocessing will institute the industry’s most stringent Animal-Free policy, whereby raw materials will be controlled to a tertiary level. These controls will provide the lowest risk to our customers:

• All ingredients, ingredient components and ingredient subcomponents utilized in the new AF² facility are not of animal origin
• For final AF²™ products, all manufacturing and packaging equipment will be dedicated and exclusively used for Animal-Free Products in facilities dedicated and exclusively used for Animal-Free Products
• Manufacturing of all AF² products is controlled to a tertiary processing level
• No historical, current or future antibiotic use in the AF² facility

Currently, no industry standards exist regarding the definition of “Animal Free” and therefore the end user needs to fully understand the animal origin policy and level of control a company has regarding the raw materials used in the production of a final product. Simply stated, what is defined as “Animal Free” by one supplier may not be considered as such by another based on how far back in the manufacturing process of the raw material a supplier will control and report to the end user.
