Training provisions

Training provisions are offered with the purchase of a BD Biosciences flow cytometer. Each training provision is valid for one enrollment by one person at an operator course conducted at the BD Biosciences training centre or your facility within 3 months following the cytometer installation. After the training offer has been exercised, a tuition fee will be charged for any additional student. Discounts on additional trainings are available when purchased with the flow cytometer.

Course descriptions

Each Operator Course is a practical-oriented training course that combines general and instrument specific background information with hands-on sessions. Participants can expect effective training classes that focus on individual hands-on sessions in small groups.


BD FACSAria™ systems Operator Course

Course content*

Practical sessions cover:

  • Standard operation and maintenance procedures
  • Cytometer configuration & Quality control (CS&T)
  • Sorting into tubes and plates
  • Changing nozzles and sheath pressure
  • Multicolor data acquisition and sorting strategies
  • Data collection, gating and compensation with BD FACSDiva™ software
  • Tips for troubleshooting, sample preparation and handling

Theoretical presentations include:

  • Basic concepts of flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Operation of System Components 
  • Overview of the subsystems optics, fluidics and electronics
  • Overview on fluorescent dyes, spectral spillover & compensation
  • Data management & quality control

Course prerequisites
Participants ideally have some background in flow cytometry, fluorescence theory and compensation.

Duration*
4 days from Monday until Thursday.


BD Influx™ Operator Course

Course content*

Practical sessions cover:

  • Standard operation and maintenance procedures
  • Stream and laser alignment
  • Change of nozzles and fluidics lines
  • Multicolor data acquisition and sorting strategies
  • Sorting into tubes and plates
  • BD FACS Sort software
  • Tips for troubleshooting, sample preparation and handling

Theoretical presentations include:

  • Basic concepts of flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Main parts and operational modes
  • Instrument specific optics, fluidics and electronics
  • Overview on fluorescent dyes, spectral spill over & compensation

Course prerequisites
Participants ideally have some background in flow cytometry, fluorescence theory and compensation.

Multicolour Flow Cytometry: Optimised Solutions for Multicolour Experiments by flow Cytometry

Multicolor flow cytometry is a powerful tool for analyzing multiple cellular parameters simultaneously. This course will enable you to design and run multicolor experiments on a BD digital flow cytometer. You will learn the principles of multicolor panel design and how to optimise your cytometer settings to your application.

Course content*

Practical sessions cover:

  • Set up and Quality Control of BD Flow Cytometers
  • “Fluorogame” to memorize the different fluorochrome characteristics
  • Compensation
  • Data acquistion recording and analysis of eight-color experiments
  • Multicolour Panel design exercises

Theoretical presentations include:

  • Set up and Quality Control of BD Flow Cytometers
  • Characteristics and combination of fluorochromes
  • Optimal compensation and the prevention of artefacts 
  • Prevention of artifacts in Muticolor Flow cytometry: Compensation related artifacts
  • Multicolour panel design
  • Multicolour experiments for intra-cellular staining
  • Negative controls

Course prerequisites
Completion of a BD operator course for a digital cytometer using BD FACSDiva™ software v6 or equivalent experience on a BD digital cytometer.
